Today's MX had a short article on burlesque, featuring an interview with a dancer from Man's Ruin.

<h2>Burlesque just for kicks</h2>

Burlesque dancing is about dressing up, not dressing down, for <a href="http://www.mansruinburlesque.com/images/bio_images/Lola.jpg" rel="nofollow">Miss Lola Cherry Cola</a>.

The city burlesque artist, also known as Sara Cross, 25, performs the decades-old dance form with Man’s Ruin Burlesque just for kicks.

“We don’t really make money from it at all, we do it more for the sheer enjoyment we get out of it. It’s so much fun,” she said.

Cross’s fascination with burlesque began when she and her friends strutted the catwalk in a retro-styled fashion parade

She took the concept further in 2004, gathering her friends to create dance routines and costumes that mesh PVC, gingham, suspenders, fishnets, high heels and the odd tattoo.

The perform nationally, combining striptease and sexy dance routings with rock and roll, rockabilly, funk and soul.

Like more well-known burlesque performers such as Dita Von Teese, Cross said Man’s Ruin attracted a diverse female-centred audience.

“Burlesque has gone through a bit of a revival,” she said. “This is a way for the entertainer and exhibitionist in a girl to get up on stage.”

Watching and performing burlesque also gives women more body confidence, Cross said. “It’s powerful. Because we’re not all size eights it’s given us a platform to make women feel good about their bodies.”

I went to see the Voodoo Trash Dolls on Saturday night at Cherry Bomb. They were amaaazzing!

I've been to lots of burlesque shows around the place, but these sassy girls were definitely the best. i think they are all professionally trained dancers, but multitalented and very sexy.

thanks for telling us about them

I believe they called it a "cabaret extravaganza" rather than a burlesque one, although your point remains both the same and accurate. However, I feel in the interests of journalistic integrity (bwahahahah!) that you might have noted that said non-extravaganza did actually take place in a strip club, and hence it was no surprise that said ladies got naked. You get what you pay for. Or in your case, Mr My-Girlfriend-Gets-Free-Tickets-To-Nudey-Things, what you didn't pay for.

Oh and thanks, now I have images of your Mum in a pub and it's all getting tangled up with Linda Lovelace and...ugh.
